Original illustrated room with amber hanging light and a ceramic vessel
AAMBERLINE

A quiet study of light at the edge of a room.

Warm materials, held for a moment.

Making light

A small pool of gold changes the way a surface feels.

The room is an illustration. Its window bars, hanging light and vessel form a few simple planes, held together by shadow.

Light makes one edge sharp and leaves another soft. A pale object can feel warm without changing its colour. There is room to pause here.

AMBERLINE is a fictional material journal. These drawings are original studies, not photographs of a place, a product or a person.

Holding shadow

A curved rim keeps a little darkness close to the light.

Clay, paper and brass each answer the same light differently. A fold makes a line. A bowl makes a hollow. The lamp leaves a reflection.

Layers of simple vector shapes and gradients. This is an illustrative object, not a rendering of a real product.

A way to look

Begin with an edge

Follow the bowl's rim. Then look at the shadow just inside it. The drawing uses very few shapes, but each edge changes the next.

Take your time

The room light moves slowly. Pause it with the motion button. Reduced-motion settings stop it automatically. The text remains visible when scripts are off.

Original, local, illustrative
